By Lexi StacyI didn’t know what to expect coming into a summer associate program, let alone a virtual summer program. I’m happy to report that the experience exceeded my expectations on all fronts. The orientation programming really helped me get a better sense of all the practice groups at Foley Hoag and some of the attorneys that work in them. Hearing my colleagues recount their favorite cases and deals made me eager to jump in.
I’m strongly interested in the energy and environmental practice group, which spans the corporate and administrative departments. I was focused on taking on assignments from both departments so I could get a better idea about my future at Foley Hoag. Luckily, it was easy to get assignments in these areas and more!
My first assignment was a business internship, which led to interesting and challenging drafting assignments for renewable energy transactions. I loved the challenge and was able to learn so much from the partner and associate I was paired with. I also contributed to substantive assignments across a range of other topics and departments, including energy project permitting diligence and racial justice policy research. I had the opportunity to directly interface with multiple clients over Zoom, an experience which might have been a conference call in normal times. Even though we couldn’t meet in person, I had the chance to get to know quite a few partners and associates at Foley Hoag. Our social gatherings were full of cocktails, fun activities and the occasional dog on the screen.
