Foley Hoag Named to 2017 Latinvex Top Law Firms List
September 6, 2017
Foley Hoag LLP has once again been recognized as a top law firm in Latin America by Latinvex, an online publisher of daily news and weekly analysis on Latin American business.
Latinvex annually ranks the top international law firms in Latin America, both overall and in 18 subcategories. The 2017 rankings place Foley Hoag at 2nd in litigation, 11th in arbitration and 15th overall. Results are compiled through an exclusive survey distributed amongst firms. The final lists are based on a combination of factors, such as value, prominence and scope of work over a 12-month period, as well as references from clients and peers.
Foley Hoag’s International Litigation and Arbitration Department has a long history of advising Latin American countries in complex state-to-state disputes and investor-state arbitration. Most recently, the firm achieved high profile victories in major international cases: obtaining a favorable judgment for El Salvador, which had been facing a demand for over $314 million in estimated lost profits from mining company Pac Rim Cayman; a precedent-setting defense of Uruguay’s strict regulation of tobacco packaging over Philip Morris; and representing Ecuador in an UNCITRAL arbitration under the Ecuador – U.S. bilateral investment treaty arising from changes in domestic legislation pertaining to the exploitation of oil resources in Ecuador.
Earlier this year, Latinvex named Foley Hoag partners Clara Brillembourg and Mélida Hodgson to its Latin America's Top 100 Female Lawyers list in the Arbitration & Litigation category, and named partner Paul Reichler to its Latin America's Top 100 Lawyers in Arbitration & Litigation list.
